Federal contracts by state, not state government contracts

These figures are federal government contracts, counted by place of performance: where the work is done, not where the contractor is based. A contract to maintain a base in Texas counts for Texas even if the company is in Virginia.

State and local government contracts (from state agencies, counties and cities) are separate and are not included. To find federal bids in your state now, filter the open government contracts by state.

Frequently asked questions

Which state gets the most federal contract money?
By place of performance, Virginia had the most federal contract obligations from FY2024 to FY2026: $350B. It was followed by Texas ($248B) and California ($181B).
Do I have to be based in a state to win contracts performed there?
No. A company can be based anywhere and win a federal contract performed in another state. Some programs do depend on location, such as HUBZone, which looks at where your principal office and employees are.
Are state government contracts included?
No. These pages cover federal contracts only, counted where the work is performed. State, county and city governments buy through their own procurement portals and are not included.
